Exercise
Generator is a timesaving tool that enables teachers
to create and print out paper-based worksheets in
minutes. The program includes a bank of texts and
activities on topics as diverse as orang-utan rehabilitation,
Harry Potter, the Jaipur leg and the Museum of the
Moving Image. These texts are at five levels of ability
from Elementary to Advanced, represent a variety of
text-types, and are differentiated by sentence length,
grammatical structure and vocabulary.
The great strength
of Exercise Generator is that it additionally allows
teachers to input their own texts which are then quickly
and easily turned into neatly laid-out activities.
The program includes nine different exercise types
including gapfill, jumbled words, wordsearch, proof
reading and sentence matching. Use of this range of
activity types "is excellent for coursework preparation
or detailed study of a text." (Evaluate report,
see left.)
Altering the
source text enables teachers to create differentiated
worksheets for a mixed ability class.
The program
allows teachers to archive their worksheets for future
use with titles describing their content and intended
use. This makes it easy for department members to
collaborate in building up a bank of activities.
Exercise Generator
was originally developed with Oxford University Press
and was recently officially adopted by the Ministry
of Education in Malaysia for 800 schools. "The
teachers were grateful for Exercise Generator,"
reported a Malaysian trainer. "How their eyes
sparkled at the end of the session!
Exercise Generator
is available for English at five levels, or in a Multi-language
version including English, French, German and Spanish.
