Murder Mystery is an exciting multimedia software program designed to test learners’ skills in the following areas: |
| - |
listening for information |
| - |
concise note-taking |
| - |
text evaluation |
| - |
error recognition (English grammar) |
|
The program is divided into two levels (on the same disk): |
| - |
Pre-intermediate to Mid-intermediate |
| - |
Mid-intermediate to Advanced |
|
Part 1 – Find the murderer
The learner must find a murderer by listening to the different alibis given by six suspects. As they listen to each alibi, they must take concise notes on the information given by each suspect, such as where they were at the time of the murder, who they were with and what were they doing.
|
These notes build up so that when they have heard all the alibis, the learner can evaluate the information and work out who committed the crime. (The murderer tells two lies). |
It takes an average of 25-30 minutes to find the murderer. |
Part 2 – Find the accomplice
Having successfully found the murderer, the learner must then find the accomplice
by finding the person who makes the most mistakes in English usage. After successfully
finding the accomplice, the learner may see all the incorrect items and their
correct forms.
|
It takes an average of 15-20 minutes to find the accomplice.
|
There are twelve murder scenarios and ten accomplice scenarios.
|
If the learner selects the murderer or accomplice wrongly TWICE during an exercise, they will be treated as having failed and the exercise ends. The scenarios appear randomly. The voices used in the program cover a wide range of native-speaker accents.
